MARK 10:13-16

“People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.”‭‭Mark‬ ‭10:13-16

When we started our vbs preparations these verses set our foundation. Personally these words of Jesus really was my biggest motivator and gave me purpose and drive for this vbs. Today was the last day, we finished strong and I believe we walked out these verses and brought them to life.

In our ending service we had a time where I shared the gospel with all the kids and asked if they wanted to accept Jesus in their lives and receive salvation. Almost every single kid raised their hand. The staff team got in a line and prayed over each kid and welcomed them to the Kingdom.

From the bottom of my heart this was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had and one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever witnessed. As I was explaining to the kids what just happened and what this meant to God I couldn’t help but cry. Tears of joy were rolling down my face because I couldn’t help but rejoice in what god has done.

I truly believe that God did something special. He has planted seeds, called His children home and brought them into a loving relationship. This made absolutely everything worth it. That moment was what we all worked so hard for this week, to witness salvation and see the gospel and love of Jesus shower these children. Praise God for what He has done!

OH HAPPY DAY

If you know me you will now that I am most definitely not a morning person by any means. I just don’t do mornings. People call me an owl because I’m more alive at 3am at night than anytime in the day. I literally sometimes think I’m nocturnal.

But being the director for vbs this year I have to be at church earlier than I would usually like. I try to get there by 7:45 each morning. These past couple days mornings were a struggle and I would be pretty grumpy and groggy when I got to church. But today was very different.

I woke up a little past 6 am (which is when I sometimes go to bed lol) and I felt great. I got ready while singing and worshipping and set off for my day. I was all smiles and happiness this morning during our staff meeting and getting things prepared. The reason I think this was the case is because I absolutely love doing vbs.

Walking into an empty church, knowing that in a few hours the halls and rooms will be filled with God’s children ready to learn about Him. Knowing the quietness will soon be interrupted with rejoicing sounds of laughter and worship really excites me.

How could I not be filled with joy and excitement? There’s a particular song from our vbs this year that wouldn’t depart from my mind or lips this morning.

It is a happy day knowing that the day will be filled with children meeting and encountering the living God. What a way to start the day, with anticipation and expectations knowing God will do something amazing.

SUN UP TO SUN DOWN

I was at church from 7:45am til 9:30pm today. VBS was finished around 2ish and I need to come back to church anyways for Refresh tonight at 7 so I just decided to stay at church, take a little nap there and then prepare before Refresh.

Overall it was an amazing day. VBS went really well. Yesterday we had some struggles and challenges but today was great, couldn’t have asked for more. Refresh was also a great time. We all spent time on our own going through scripture finding stories and verses that spoke into our current lives and circumstances. It was a great way to be in scripture as well as be vulnerable to share with one another how we were all doing.

Even though I was at church all day, was tired and a bit exhausted, I loved it. Days like today I’m reminded this is what I love. Being in the house of the Lord, serving the Kingdom and being with the Father and other brothers and sisters in Christ. This is what I want to do for the rest of my life and I’m glad that’s exactly what I will be doing.

KICKOFF

After a long wait, countless hours of preparation and prayer, we kicked off our VBS today! I can’t believe it has already started. Today was so good and through it all I was able to experience God’s provision. It was evident that God is the ultimate leader and not myself or the team.

We had more kids register than expected and it was great meeting new faces and have so many join us in this time seeking the Lord. Since it was the first day the beginning was a little hectic with registration and assigning everyone to crews but after we overcame that everything was smooth sailing from there on.

Every time we were in need, God provided. I can’t explain how thankful I am for the team God has given me this year. The staff were absolutely tremendous! Every crew leader and station leader did an outstanding job even though it was the first day.

God has filled my heart with expectation and excitement. I cannot wait to see what more God will do through this week in the hearts of our children as well as in the hearts of our staff! Through God’s unfailing love we were able to kickoff this vbs with a bang!

DAD’S SHOP

Since my mom is in Korea I’ve been going to my dad’s shoe repair shop every day to help out. Today’s original plan was to help out for a little and then go to church to do some final preparations for vbs. But things didn’t go as planned and I ended up being at my dad’s til close with my sister.

I wasn’t there because I had to or needed to but because I wanted to. Especially these past few months I’ve been crazy busy and haven’t really had much time to spend with my dad especially. Sometimes by the time I get home my dad’s in bed so I don’t get to see home for days at times.

Even though I had things I could have been doing today I wanted to take full advantage and just be with my dad. It’s a great time being with him, helping out and just spending quality time together. Whenever I’m with Him it’s always a time of joy and peace. He is someone I can talk to about everything and someone who always knows how to make me laugh.

Especially this weekend with vbs right around the corner I’ve been feeling the stress and anxiety slowly kicking in. So it was a much needed time to take my mind off of things and be with the greatest guy in the planet, my dad. I’m blessed and thankful God gave me this opportunity today to take time away from everything else and spend it with my family.

HE KEEPS ANSWERING

Almost every morning so far this week I’ve woken up to great news through emails and texts about people interested in our vbs next week and stuff like that. It has caused me to wake up with some sort of expectation and excitement before looking at my phone. I wasn’t disappointed this morning.

As soon as I looked at my phone I saw a handful of messages from one of my kids moms and she was telling me how two kids who don’t attend church currently are going to be coming to our vbs. The moment I saw that my face lit up. There’s nothing like waking up to an answered prayer.

For about a month now we’ve been praying that God would use this vbs as an opportunity to bring children who don’t know Jesus closer to Christ. God has been answering that prayer but He proved today that He isn’t done. It’s truly amazing to see how God keeps answering our prayers and doing the unexpected! I am beyond excited to see what more He has in store next week!

WHEN THE ENEMY APPROACHES

With vbs right around the corner I’ve super busy getting things together and being at church for many hours every day. With that being said I’ve been on edge a bit and a tad sensitive. Today I felt the enemy getting a little closer and using my current state to have me fall. I did hinder with anger and negative emotions but in the midst of that I was challenged by God to take a breath and just call out His name.

That’s the reality of ministry. Whenever something big is about to happen the enemy approaches, but in those times are when we are to be even more firm and strong in our faith. We cannot let our flesh get the best of our spirit.

To regain ground and be rejuvenated once again I took time for myself which I haven’t really been able to do these past few weeks. I went to the golf range, washed my car and went grocery shopping. During all those activities I recollected my thoughts and found peace in and joy in Him.

WHEN PRAYERS BECOME REALITY

I can’t believe it’s already been 4 weeks since we have been preparing for our VBS. It has been a long and busy 4 weeks but honestly a really enjoyable time. God gave me a true conviction from the beginning of preparation, I do the best of my ability on my part and have faith and trust in God and He will do the rest. That was our big prayer topic during or vbs prayer meetings, fully trusting in God to work in the hearts of our kids and parents so His children can take one step closer to Him. Another big prayer point we’ve been praying about was for this vbs to be a ministry and bridge to spread the gospel to kids who God really desires to have a relationship with.

One thing I haven’t been focusing on at all was the number of attendees. To be honest I was convicted from the beginning that I will give it my all if it’s for 1 kid or for 100. The number didn’t matter. But through that I believe God moved and revealed that He is wanting to do the unexpected.

Just about a month ago I was expecting about 15 kids to be at our vbs. Due to busy schedules and people being out of town a lot of our kids can’t come to our vbs. But through the grace of God He has opened opportunities for other kids in the community to register for our vbs and now we are expecting over 30 kids. That’s crazy.

There are these two brothers in my children’s ministry who I really really wanted to come to vbs since they have never attended before. I thought it would be a great experience for them and would be a huge stepping stone in their faith. But their dad told me a month or so ago that they will be going to Korea right after school is out so they couldn’t come.

But randomly last Sunday their dad came up to me and said He’s really been contemplating about pushing back their flight so their kids could come and he said he would get back to me. This morning I woke up to an email from him saying that they will be going to Korea on a later date so they could attend vbs. Praise God!!

CLUTCH

We are finally done with vbs decorations and now officially 6 days away from vbs. This week is dedicated to doing our final program preparations and for me to have meetings with all our crew and station leaders. I was at church before one of my meetings preparing some things when my computer started acting up pretty bad. I wasn’t able to open any of my apps or open any of my documents. That’s when panic mode kicked in because all my vbs stuff that’s crucial in preparation is saved on my computer.

It couldn’t have been any worse timing. I was able to finish all my meetings and do everything I needed to for the day without getting to the documents but I need them for the rest of the week. I’m really bad with computers and I had no idea what to do so I began to freak out because without my computer I’m doomed for vbs. So I called my best friend who is a tech wiz to see if he could help me out despite his busy schedule.

He met up with me as soon as possible and started to scope things out. After about 4 hours he was able to figure everything out and now my computer is like new. It was such a relief and I am so thankful he was able to come through. If it wasn’t for him I couldn’t imagine what would have happened for me. He came in clutch.

Moments like these I’m so thankful and blessed to have brothers like him in my life. Even though he is very busy and has a lot going on he took time out of his schedule to help me out in a time of need. I’m really grateful to have selfless people like him in my life that are always looking out even when I don’t deserve it.

ALL ABOUT FAMILY

I feel like God gives me countless reminders how blessed I am to have the family I do. This weekend, today especially was another one of those reminders.

As my dad and sister was in Chicago over the weekend taking my mom to O’hare airport to fly out to Korea, I went up to my aunt and uncles house in Columbus yesterday after church until today. When I got up there yesterday I was greeted with a delicious steak dinner and today, a morning filled with fishing with my uncle on this beautiful Memorial Day.

After fishing and grabbing some lunch and spending some time with them I headed back to Cincinnati. As soon as I got home I caught up with my dad and sister about their time in Chicago. Then after we ate dinner my mom FaceTimed us.

My mom suddenly went to Korea because my grandma who is 96 has been feeling very ill, so my mom went for the first time in 9 years to spend some quality time with her. To see my mom next to my grandma really was quite emotional for me. Mixed emotions both sad and joyful (mostly joy). The reality is my grandma is 96 but to know my mom is able to spend time with her and catch up on missed years is truly a blessing.

There really is nothing like family. Something I’ve realized recently is that I’ve let my busy schedule get in the way of me and my family, spending quality time and embracing every moment. But as I was encountering all these blessings today something one of my mentors told me a few ago stood out, “Even though ministry may get busy always make time for family, family is also a priority”.
